In 1986, Eric Bachman hung a small shingle from his La Veta home, partnered up with one broker, and launched his most-recent real estate venture -- one dedicated to personal service for a small, discriminating clientele.

After launching his real estate career in this region in the 1970s, Bachman returned in 1986 with a successful 15-year track record as a real estate broker in some of Colorado's most desirable regions, from Cripple Creek to Vail.

But Bachman also brought with him a dogged belief in the need to protect the unique, pristine mountain environment. While these two concepts may seem at odds, in Bachman's mind they're two sides of the same coin.

"People think when you're in real estate, you're a subdivider, an opportunist," he said. "But I'm an environmentalist.

I feel I can do more on the inside than on the outside of the business."

More than 20 years later, the business has moved to more spacious accommodations in a historic building on La Veta's Main Street and is home to several talented brokers, but the spirit that propels Bachman and Associates has not changed.

Simply put, the firm specializes in selling unique mountain properties to discriminating buyers.

In that way, Bachman hopes to help clients find their once-in-a-lifetime piece of the American dream, while protecting La Veta and Cuchara from the rampant development that threatens to spoil so many other mountain resort towns.

That spirit has attracted a team which Bachman flatly calls "the best in the business."

"We have an incredibly gifted group of professionals of diverse backgrounds," he said. "One is a former mortgage broker, another is a former banker, while a third is a venture capitalist ... and the list goes on.

This is the most educated group of people in local real estate. They're experts in the area, they're experts in their field and they're experts at putting the right buyers and sellers together."
